Track 1 · Secured by the unit · 12-month authority bar

Truck and trailer financing, $40,000 to $500,000 a unit.

Finance a tractor, a trailer, a reefer unit, or a whole replacement cycle. We hold the lien, which is why the bar here is lower than on an unsecured advance: 12 months of authority, 1 power unit, $35,000 a month in deposits.

If you are factoring with us, your invoice history counts as your deposit history.

Eligibility criteria

Both tracks in full, then the equipment-specific criteria. Equipment is the one Track 1 product with a genuinely lower bar, because a titled asset secures it.

Not eligible for any product

  • Freight brokers and 3PLs with no owned or leased power units
  • Carriers under an active FMCSA out-of-service order
  • Carriers whose only receivables are from a related-party shipper
  • Carriers with an open involuntary bankruptcy

Why the 24-month rule exists

Motor carriers with fewer than two years under their own authority have an average three-year failure rate of 85% (FreightWaves, August 2026, citing Mitsubishi HC Capital America).

Under 49 CFR Part 385, a new carrier is also inside an 18-month FMCSA new-entrant monitoring window and must pass a safety audit in its first 12 months — authority can be revoked by a regulator for reasons that have nothing to do with the bank account.

We will not write an unsecured advance against that. We will factor your invoices from day one, because factoring is secured by the broker’s credit, not yours.

What we will and will not put a lien on

Units, trailers, and the add-ons we roll into the note.

What we finance

  • Class 8 sleeper and day cab tractors
  • Class 6–7 straight and box trucks
  • Dry van, reefer, flatbed, step deck, lowboy, and tanker trailers
  • Reefer units and APUs as standalone items
  • Yard trucks, hostlers, and shop equipment
  • Up to $25,000 of install, paint, and lettering rolled into the note

What we do not finance

  • Units over 10 model years old without a 20%+ down payment
  • Salvage or rebuilt titles
  • Units purchased from a related party
  • Lease-purchase buyouts from a carrier you drive for

Before you sign anything

What a truck is actually worth right now.

The single biggest cause of carrier failure in this cycle was not freight rates. It was equipment bought at 2021–2022 prices.

A four-year-old Freightliner Cascadia with under 500,000 miles is worth roughly $45,000 today. Thousands of them are financed at $100,000 to $110,000. Five-year-old equipment that sold for about $34,000 pre-COVID peaked near $120,000. Those carriers were underwater the moment rates collapsed, and they are a large part of the 8,000+ DOT numbers that went dark between January 2024 and March 2026. (FreightWaves, August 2026, citing Mitsubishi HC Capital America.)

We will finance a unit at the price you negotiate. We will also tell you, before you sign, if the number is out of line with what that unit books at — because a note you cannot carry is not a win for either of us. Ask us for the comp. It costs you nothing and it is the most valuable call you will make this month.

Buy, lease, or overhaul

Sometimes the cheapest truck is the one you already own.

An in-frame overhaul runs $18,000 to $45,000 — $9,500 to $26,000 in parts, $8,500 to $19,000 in labour at $110–$185 an hour, plus the days the unit sits. A replacement used tractor is $40,000 to $80,000 and resets the clock on your maintenance curve but starts a new 60-month payment at 40.4¢ a mile — the highest truck-payment cost-per-mile ATRI has ever recorded.

  • Overhaul when the frame, rails, and electrical are sound, the unit is under 900,000 miles, and the overhaul is under about 50% of replacement cost.
  • Replace when you are into the second major failure in eighteen months, or the unit cannot hold emissions compliance.
  • Finance either. An overhaul of $18,000+ is fundable as working capital or on an equipment note secured by the unit. Most lenders will not do the overhaul. We will.

Questions carriers actually ask

Equipment financing, answered.

Can I finance a truck with bad credit?

Yes. There is no minimum FICO. Credit sets your rate (8%–18% APR) and your down payment, not your approval. The unit secures the note.

How long do I need authority to finance equipment?

12 continuous months — half what we require for an unsecured advance, because we hold the title.

Can an owner-operator finance a second truck?

Yes. Equipment financing requires 1 power unit, not 3. It is the normal path from one truck to a fleet.

Can I buy from a private seller or at auction?

Yes. Dealer, private party, and auction are all accepted. We need a bill of sale or dealer invoice and we fund the seller directly.

How old a truck will you finance?

Model year 2016 or newer as standard. Pre-2016 is case by case at 20%–25% down. No salvage or rebuilt titles.

What’s the mileage limit?

Under 700,000 miles on a Class 8 tractor. No cap on trailers.

Will you finance an engine overhaul?

Yes — $18,000 to $45,000 is a normal ticket, either as an equipment note secured by the unit or as working capital if you qualify for Track 1.

Do you take a lien on my other equipment?

No. First position on the titled unit only. No blanket lien.
