Guide · Credit
Can a trucking company get funding with bad credit?
Yes. Linehaul Capital has no minimum FICO on any in-house product: working capital ($75,000–$750,000) and lines of credit are underwritten on six months of bank deposits, authority age and power-unit count, and a credit score alone does not decline a file. Invoice factoring involves no personal credit check at all — we check the broker who owes the invoice. The exception is SBA, where our lending partner’s gate is typically 650+.
Credit requirements by product
| Product | Credit requirement | Who decides | What gets read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invoice factoring | No minimum FICO, no personal credit check | Linehaul Capital, in-house | The broker or shipper who owes the invoice |
| Working capital | No minimum FICO | Linehaul Capital, in-house | 6 months of deposits, authority age, units, safety rating |
| Line of credit | No minimum FICO | Linehaul Capital, in-house | Same as working capital; limit reviewed every 6 months |
| Term loans | Set by the partner’s underwriting | Bank lending partners | Statements, 2 years of tax returns and a year-to-date P&L above $250,000 |
| SBA loans | Typically 650+ | SBA lending partners | Full financial documentation, typically 2 years in business |
What we read instead of a credit score
For advance products, three published thresholds decide eligibility: 3 or more power units (2 on specialized authority), 24 or more continuous months of authority, and $60,000 or more in average monthly business bank deposits across the last six months. We also check that you have no “Unsatisfactory” FMCSA safety rating and that your new-entrant audit is closed. We read bank statements, not credit reports.
That means the condition of your statements matters more than your score. A file that clears every threshold can still decline on bank-statement condition, undisclosed existing debt, negative days, NSF frequency, verification failure, or safety and authority status. A low score with clean, steady deposits is a better file for us than a high score on an account that goes negative every week.
Bad credit and factoring
Factoring is the product built for a damaged credit file. We advance 90–97% of each delivered invoice the same day on packets in by 1:00 PM ET, at 1.5% to 3.5% depending on volume and recourse terms. The only credit that matters is your broker’s, and you can run any broker through us free before you book the load. No time-in-business minimum, no revenue minimum, month to month.
What bad credit does change
- SBA is off the table for now. SBA is the one product where a credit score is a hard gate, and it is the lender’s gate, not ours. Under 650, working capital is the answer today, and you can refinance into SBA later from a cleaner position.
- A personal guarantee is still required. Most products require one from an owner holding 20% or more. It is not a collateral pledge: working capital is unsecured, with no lien on your trucks.
- Disclosure matters more. If credit trouble came from an open advance, say so on the first call. We will not fund behind an undisclosed advance; see funding with an existing cash advance.
Collateral, and who we cannot fund at any score
Weak credit does not mean pledging your trucks. Working capital and lines of credit under $250,000 are unsecured, with no lien on your trucks and no blanket UCC. Factoring is secured by a UCC-1 on accounts receivable only. A few files are out regardless of credit: freight brokers and 3PLs with no owned or leased power units, carriers under an active FMCSA out-of-service order, carriers whose only receivables are from a related-party shipper, and carriers with an open involuntary bankruptcy.
What it costs
We quote every advance as a total cost of funding and a payment amount, in dollars. On our representative file, $150,000 over 12 months is a $190,500 payback: a $40,500 cost of funding, paid as $3,664 a week or $756 per business day. Pay it off in the first 30 days and you keep up to $12,150 of the remaining cost. An illustration, not an offer.
Who funds what
Linehaul Capital is a direct lender. Working capital, lines of credit and invoice factoring are underwritten and funded in-house as the first path. SBA 7(a) and 504 loans, and bank term loans above $250,000, are arranged through our bank and SBA lending partners; on those we package the file, manage the process and stay your point of contact. Questions carriers actually ask
Straight answers.
What credit score do I need for trucking working capital?
None. Linehaul Capital has no minimum FICO on working capital, lines of credit or invoice factoring. We underwrite six months of business bank deposits, authority age and power-unit count, and a credit score alone does not decline a file.
Do you run personal credit for invoice factoring?
No. For factoring we check the credit of the broker or shipper who owes the invoice, not yours.
Can I get an SBA loan with bad credit?
Usually not. SBA loans are originated by our SBA lending partners, and their credit gate is typically 650 or higher. Working capital is the answer today, and you can refinance into SBA later from a cleaner position.
Is a personal guarantee required?
Yes, on most products, from an owner holding 20% or more of the business. A personal guarantee is not a collateral pledge; working capital is unsecured and carries no lien on your trucks.
If credit doesn't decline a file, what does?
Bank-statement condition, undisclosed existing debt, negative days, NSF frequency, verification failure, or safety and authority status. Missing a published threshold moves you to invoice factoring rather than ending the conversation.
